error message | ||

Hi,
I swear I must be jinxed! I ran the 'update' as you requested. I then attempted to create a new character using the wizard and chose a human from the pc races list. When the next menue came up, I got this error message: Error : TypeError - 'null' is null or not an object Source : g_creatUpdate( false ); Do you have any suggestions? Thanks, -Nick |

Yup, I'm getting the same thing here when I am trying to make a Huge Spider Racial Sorcerer.
Error : TypeError - 'null' is null or not an object Source : g_creatUpdate( false ); Also many of the replys to other threads appear blank to me. Is this happening to anyone else? Will keep up to date on the thread here... |

Re: Issues and questions for the Networking beta

Sorry guys.
There's a problem with a new function I have to create default creature descriptions for showing players in networking. The problem occurs when you have a blank name, which happens (before you get a chance to edit it), when you add a new creature using the wizard. I'll update very soon with a fix, but you can fix it yourself immediately if you like. You can edit the function "g_checkPlayerDesc" in the file "rpm.js". The code which reads: var desc = c.Name; should be edited to be: var desc = g_makeStr(c.Name); Thanks for the feedback! |

I want to test the network version using my home PC and a networked laptop, but I have loaded both with the same User ID. Tried changing the username in personal info, but I guess the program has some other way of telling which licensed user is trying to connect.
Should I just get another license for the laptop? Or is this something that will correct when you have the autogeneration of ID codes in the next update? Guy |

Here's a bug that just popped up today when I'm trying to load the beta... But it didn't happen the two times I tried to run it before. Very strange...
qryGen: Error 7200: AQE Error: State = 42000; NativeError = 2115; [Extended Systems][Advantage SQL Engine]Expected lexical element not found: identifier or expression There was a problem parsing the WHERE clause in your SELECT statement. -- Location of error in the SQL statement is: 37 The code block is here: 0024: return errVal; 0025: } 0026: } 0027: 0028: function qryValue( qry, sep ) 0029: { 0030: var ret = NULL, q = getDbTable( "qry" ), fld; 0031: 0032: if( sep == NULL) sep = "@"; 0033: execSQL( qry ); 0034: fld = q.Fields.Fields(0); 0035: for( q.First(); !q.Eof(); q.Next() ) 0036: { 0037: if( ret == NULL ) ret = fld.AsVariant; 0038: else 0039: { 0040: ret = "" + ret + sep + fld.AsVariant; 0041: } 0042: } 0043: if( ret == NULL) ret = ""; If I try to continue to load the program, It eventually crashes completely. I see no way to get back into the program... I may need to go back to my previous version. I wish I knew what's causing this. The only thing I did the last time I loaded RPM was change some pictures for characters on the map and add some pictures and notes to their notes section. Jared |

Bug loading LAtest Beta version
|
Unzipped the download into my program directory and ran it. It locks up 'updating the creature catalogue' looks as if it's in some sort of loop as processor is running at 99% but no disc access. Running windows XP with al the latest patches.

Luke,
Just starting to try out the network features. I note when I try moving a character icon on DM screen, it seems to disappear from player screen. Also, how would I connect via internet? Guy |

Seem to be having better luck lately controlling movement of characters on map, using hide and reveal functions etc.
Any way to include a map picture for items, then handle them on the mapping screen the same way that you do characters? This would come in particularly handy for traps. . . Guy |

I'd like ability to double click on character on map and pull up the Character sheet.

First thing about XP with SP2: Make sure that you are logged in with administrator priviledges.
The other things is that it can take a while to complete the database update if you have hundreds of creatures in your database (eg loaded the 'Everyone' dataset). How long did you leave it running? |

Hi Jared,
Could you re-apply the latest network beta to another copy of your version prior to updating with the network beta. I can't seem to reproduce an error like that. Thanks, Luke |

Re: Issues and questions for the Networking beta

Hi Guy,
1. Characters may disappear off your map when you first update. This is because RPM is now more strict about the character *really* belonging on the map. Before it was possible to have a character appearing on different maps. There are solid reasons why you can't really let that happen. This should only happen when you first update. 2. Players connect via the internet by pressing the search (magnifier) button. The list of current RPM users should appear, and you select the one you want (it gives you the server IP number). 3. You can simply create a 'Picture' on the map, and assign any image that you like from the image library (or add a new image to the image library). You can still make a 'Picture' visible or invisiable, which is great for things like traps, secret doors, or hidden treasure. 4. To bring up the 'Character Sheet' (the main Creature screen with the Statblock info and everything else???), simply right-click and select 'View'. |

Re: Issues and questions for the Networking beta

Luke,
Thanks, the issue with the disappearing characters has resolved as you promised. Sounds like connecting via internet will be a piece of cake. It works just as if you were on a LAN then? I understand that you can add a picture (hidden or not) on the map and indicate a trap that way. However, it would be nice if you could pull up on the trap's stats by right clicking and then selecting view . . . Now that you mention it, I am having a problem with character window showing ostensibly hidden items (unless they're on an unrevealed portion of the map). Also, the background map is not coming up in the PC's window (just white background). Right click then view works (although I think that a double left click seems more intuitive). Any way you could make the default illustration for a character be the loaded picture in the character profile (or default to race if there isn't one?) Guy |

Well it's been running non stop for 48 hours now and still says 'Updating database structure: creatures'.
Any suggestions? Andy |

Guy,
1. Yes connecting via the internet or the LAN is the same. If there is a difference, it will be that you may encounter difficulties connecting to via the internet where firewall routers prevent a connection. 2. I am thinking of adding drag-and-drop for adventure map location items to the BattleMap (much as you drag-and-drop creatures onto the map). That would work for traps (and any other item), and would support a mouse click to get details (as you do with creatures). 3. What does this mean: "I am having a problem with character window showing ostensibly hidden items"? A "character window"? 4. So the player isn't getting the map background. Did it attempt to download the map from the DM computer? It would have asked to do an import. If so, what if you restart the player's connection? 5. When you create a creature, it will automatically take on its race picture, if there is one. I highly, highly recommend installing Paul Ramondi's race graphics package from the yahoo site. Whether or not you have a race picture, you can go to the 'Notes' tab of the Creature window, and assign a picture there. When you put the creature on the map, it will use that picture automatically. |

Re: re bug loading database structure

Hi Andy,
An hour should have been plenty for the very slowest of computers. Sorry, I should have been more specific. What if you update a fresh install? Does that work for you? Better yet, make another directory copy of your installation from before you did the update, and update that one. |

Can't Connect | ||

Whenever I try to log in to an available IP, I always get the error message
[System]: Networking connect error (10060) |

Re: Can't Connect | ||
Quote: Is that a local LAN, or an internet connection? Many internet connections these days are through ADSL routers that don't allow external connections to be made without proper configuration first. In the future. I'll look into building some specialized network routing code, that makes it easier to get around that sort of problem. |
